Augsburg volleyball team in Brazil -- Day 4 (5/8/08)

By Julie Jenkins (JR, Edina, Minn.) and Breann Woelfel (SO, Annandale, Minn.)
Today is the fourth day of our trip. We started off the morning with a visit to one of the most famous Brazilian attractions. We headed up what had to be one of the highest, if not the highest, mountains in Rio De Janiero. We saw the biggest Christ statue we have ever seen in our lives! It is called Christ the Redeemer and looks over the city.  After roaming in the clouds, literally, we took the train ride back down.

Once we were securely at the bottom again, we headed off to the mall. Here we ate lunch and browsed the local fashion scene. At first, the coaches banned McDonald's from the menu ... but as you can see in the pictures, they took that statement back. We realized, to our dismay, that things are about twice the price here than they are in the states. JEEZ!

We returned for a little time in the sun and then headed off to our second match. We played better than we did yesterday, but still weren’t able to pull off a win. The girls were very nice and the younger team that played after us thoroughly enjoyed our pre-wrap headbands -- so we’ll be needing some more pre-wrap when we get home, parents!

We ate dinner right at the club where we played, and had the most amazing pizza ever. They would bring us piece after piece after piece until we were full, and then they brought some more.  After the pizza was gone, and our stomachs completely full, they delivered some dessert pizza that we just couldn’t resist! Oops! We figured we’d dance our extra pounds off at the Samba club, but due to traffic, we were unable to go. Overall, we had a very long, but enjoyable day and look forward to what comes tomorrow!
-- Julie and Bree

P.S. A correction from yesterday, Julie proposed to the waiter IN PORTUGESE, not the other way around!
