Augsburg volleyball team in Brazil -- Days 7-8 (5/11-12/08)

By Shanna Reed (SO, Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) and Korri Yule (FY, Medford, Minn.)
Today, we planned on going sailing to enjoy the beautiful weather and sightsee along the way. We were looking forward to a nice relaxing day, but the weather wasn't on our side. It ended up raining most of the trip, so we had to sit under a tarp and use our towels to stay warm. Most of us ended up falling asleep for a part of the trip. Even with some of us sleeping, others still found time to learn a dance by some of the locals.

Things started to turn around towards the end of the trip and the weather cleared up a bit. The sailboat would stop along different beaches along the way to let us all jump off and swim. Jia was even able to do a backflip off the boat. The rest of us performed "cannonballs" into the water. After the trip, we all went back to the hotel to relax for a couple of hours. During the evening, we headed back downtown to spend the last of our money. We all ended up with good purchases, and did a "show-and-tell" on the ride home. We all went to bed happily after having a nice relaxing day.

On Monday, we were all able to sleep in and eat breakfast at our own leisure. Of course, our last day here was the most beautiful, so we were sure to take full advantage of the time we had left. Half of the girls walked to the beach, and the other half stayed back and laid by the pool. Before we knew it, it was time to pack up and head back towards Rio de Janeiro to catch our flight.  This trip has been a great experience. The team has been able to be closer than ever and we look forward to starting a new season. The team would like to thank our tour guide Cesar for showing us this beautiful country. And also a thanks to our dance teacher Rene, and our bodyguard Marcos. We'll miss you!
