MINNEAPOLIS (10/15/99) -- Diane Wood (Jr., Los Alamos,
N.M.) had 28 kills and five blocks (three solo) to lead St. Mary's
University to a marathon five-game match victory over host Augsburg
College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball
match at Si Melby Hall. Game scores were 15-10, 11-15, 18-20,
15-13 and 18-16.
The Cardinals improved to 16-8 overall and 5-4 in the MIAC
with the victory. Augsburg drops to 8-14 overall and 4-5 in the
MIAC.
Wood was one of five Cardinals to score in double figures in
kills in the match. Shelly Haake (Jr., Carroll, Iowa) had
13 kills and five blocks (three solo), while Amanda Edmond
(Jr., Sandstone, Minn./East Central HS) had 13 kills, 13 digs
and four service aces. Rhonda Thibault (Sr., Faribault,
Minn./Bethlehem Academy HS) had 12 kills and five blocks (two
solo), and Leslie Nicholls (So., Hastings, Minn.) hadx
12 kills and a team-high 21 digs.
Amber Rajtora (Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson HS)
had 44 assists, while Kim Bennett (Jr., Fort Dodge, Iowa)
had 18.
For Augsburg, Angie Rieger (Jr., Courtland, Minn./New
Ulm Public HS) led the way with 20 kills and 24 digs, to go with
a season-high six blocks (three solo). She also had a team-high
five service aces. Cassi Van Ausdall (Jr., White Bear Lake,
Minn.) had 15 kills and a team-high 35 digs.
Jessica Ness (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) had 14 kills
and 23 digs, while Missy Carlson (Sr., Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato
HS) had 11 kills, 23 digs and three blocks. Emily Walen (Jr.,
Hastings, Minn.) had a season-high 61 assists.
Augsburg plays at Bethel on Wednesday (10/20), while St. Mary's
plays at Carleton. Both matches are at 7:30 p.m.
