ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/27/99) -- Chantiel Walter
(Sr., Villard, Minn.) had 20 kills and eight blocks (three
solo) Wednesday night, leading Hamline University to a come-from-behind,
five-game victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference volleyball match at Hutton Arena.
After dropping the first two games, 18-16 and 15-13, the Pipers
rallied to win the final three games 15-12, 15-12 and 15-10 to
improve to 12-13 overall and 4-7 in the MIAC. Augsburg drops to
9-15 overall and 5-6 in the conference. The match was the final
MIAC regular-season contest for both teams.
Jenny Smith (Fr., Apple Valley, Minn.) added 12 kills,
six blocks (five solo), five service acs and 23 digs for the Pipers,
while Andrea Vogels (Sr., Green Bay, Wis.) had 12 kills.
Stacey Heiling (Fr., Redwood Falls, Minn.) contributed
31 assists and Kelly Leatherberry (Fr., West Linn, Ore.)
had 25 digs.
Augsburg was paced by the play of Jessica Ness (Sr.,
Cannon Falls, Minn.), who had 11 kills, 19 digs and four service
aces. Cassi Van Ausdall (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had
31 digs and 10 kills, while Angie Rieger (Jr., Courtland,
Minn./New Ulm Public HS) had 10 kills, 12 blocks and eight blocks
(three solo). Adrianne Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New
Ulm Public HS) had 10 kills, 13 digs and two blocks, and Emily
Walen (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) had 30 assists and 15 digs.
Augsburg hosts Concordia-St. Paul in a nonconference match
on Tuesday (11/2) at 7 p.m., while Hamline plays at the Wisconsin-River
Falls Tournament this weekend.
