MINNEAPOLIS (11/2/99) -- Adrianne Rieger
(Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS) and Jessica Ness
(Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) each had 15 kils and 13 digs Tuesday
night, leading Augsburg College to a four-game match victory over
Concordia University-St. Paul in a nonconference match at Augsburg's
Si Melby Hall.
Game scores were 15-10, 15-10, 11-15, 15-7 in favor of the
Auggies, who finish the regular season 10-15 overall. Concordia-St.
Paul drops to 9-29 overall.
Rieger and Ness were among four Auggie seniors playing in their
last career matches at Si Melby Hall. Missy Carlson (Sr.,
Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) had 13 kills, 13 digs and two
blocks, and Kristi Smith (Sr., Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato
HS) played in three games in the back row.
Angie Rieger (Jr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS)
added 10 kills, 12 digs and two blocks (one solo), while Cassi
Van Ausdall (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had nine kills,
19 digs, two service aces and two blocks (one solo). Emily
Walen (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) contributed 53 asists, two service
aces and 15 digs.
For the Golden Bears, Heather Griewe (Fr., Alma, Mo.)
led the way with 13 kills and six digs. Brenda Giesselmann
(Sr., New Germany, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) had 12 kills and
Chelsea Schultz (So., Sauk Rapids, Minn.) added 10 kills.
Michelle Olson (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) led Concordia
with 30 assists, with Andrea Miller (Jr., Cold Spring,
Minn./Rocori HS) adding six assists.
Augsburg, which finished 5-6 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference, is the No. 7 seed in the MIAC Tournament Friday and
Saturday (11/5-6) at Macalester College in St. Paul. The Auggies
face No. 10 Gustavus Adolphus College in the opening match Friday
at 4 p.m.
