STORY FROM ST. OLAF SPORTS INFORMATION

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/21/06) -- Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had 22 points and Kristina Lurken (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) set a school record for free-throw efficiency with a 14-for-14 effort, as Augsburg College defeated the St. Olaf College women's basketball team 69-65 in Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday at St. Olaf's Skoglund Center.

The Auggies (4-11 overall, 2-9 MIAC), who were 20-for-20 from the free throw line in the first half, scored the game's first 12 points and led 41-25 at the half. Augsburg snapped a 10-game losing streak with the victory.

St. Olaf went the first 5:52 without a point and the first 9:45 without a field goal. Augsburg finished 32-of-41 (78.0 percent) from the line, while St. Olaf was just 11-for-22 (50.0 percent).

All of Lurken's points came at the free-throw line. She eclipsed the old school record for free-throw efficency, a 12-for-12 effort by Bonnie Koerner in a 1993-94 game against St. Scholastica, and fell one free throw short of the school record for the most made free throws in a game, 15 by Selina Theisen in a game against Carleton on Jan. 24, 2004.

Lurken also had 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals, notching her second double-double of the season and third of her collegiate career. Stromquist scored in double figures for the 10th time this season, reaching the 20-point plateau for the second time, while adding four rebounds. Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) had 15 points and four rebounds. Jacci Mattern (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) added 12 points, all in the first half, in the win for Augsburg.

St. Olaf erased a 47-27 Augsburg lead, tying the game 51-51 with 9:27 to play. Augsburg then hit its next five free throws and forced six turnovers in the game's final nine minutes. The Oles (2-9 MIAC, 4-11) had 25 turnovers in the loss.

Christine Schwichtenberg (Sr., Hopkins, Minn.) had 14 points., four assists and four steals for St. Olaf. Kristina Stoermer (So., Wayzata, Minn.) had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Jenny Dettle (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) had 10 points and four rebounds.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (1/25) at 5:45 p.m. with a game at St. Mary's. St. Olaf, which has lost six of its last seven games, hosts host St. Benedict on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.
