MINNEAPOLIS (1/28/06) -- JoLynn Thielke (Jr., Holoway, Minn./Hancock HS) hit 4-of-6 from three-point range and scored 15 points with six rebounds, leading Bethel University to a 74-70 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Four of the five Bethel starters scored in double figures, as the Royals improved to 12-5 overall, 7-5 in MIAC play. Jen Ahlberg (Sr., Milaca, Minn.) had 14 points and five rebounds, Sarah Cotner (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) had 13 points and Emily Uzpen (Jr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) had 12 points and eight assists.

Augsburg, now 4-13 overall and 2-11 in MIAC play, also had four starters score in double figures. Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) and Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had 19 points apiec,e iwth LaGrave hitting 4-of-8 from three-point range and adding eight assists. Kristina Lurken (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists, and Jacci Mattern (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) had 10 points and five rebounds.

The game was a close one throughout, with neither team leading by more than eight points. There were nine ties and 10 lead changes in the game.

Augsburg rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit with a 14-5 run to take a 68-67 lead with 2:12 remaining. The teams traded leads over the next minute, but Cotzner's jumper with 1:11 left gave the Royals the lead to stay.

Augsburg hit 52 percent from the field (13-of-25) in the first half, but hit just 25.7 percent (9-of-35) in the second half, as Bethel outscored Augsburg by a 33-31 margin. Bethel hit 41.9 percent (13-of-31) from the field in the first half and 31.0 percent (9-of-29) in the second half. Bethel hit nine 3-pointers compared to four for Augsburg. The Auggies outrebounded Bethel by a 44-42 margin.

Both teams return to action on Monday (1/30), with Augsburg playing at Bethel at 5:45 p.m. and Bethel hosting St. Benedict at 7:30 p.m.
