MINNEAPOLIS -- Amy Burns (Fr., Winona, Minn./Cotter
HS) had 16 points, including four 3-pointers, in leading her St.
Mary's University women's basketball team to a 70-65 Minnesota
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Augsburg College
on Wednesday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
St. Mary's improves to 9-15 overall and 9-12 in the MIAC, while
Augsburg falls to 3-21 overall and 3-18 in the MIAC.
Burns had a three-pointer and two assists in an 11-1 run in the
first three minutes of the second half, turning a 30-29 halftime
deficit into a 40-31 St. Mary's advantage. Augsburg cut the lead
to two points twice later in the second half, but could not wrest
the lead from the Cardinals in the remainder of the game.
Kelly Gleason (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) had 15 points and
10 rebounds, while Jenny Long (So., Westmont, Ill./Montini
HS) had 12 points and nine rebounds. Molly Hollenkamp (Jr.,
South St. Paul, Minn.) had eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Jill Ruprecht (Sr., Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS) led the
all scorers with 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds for
the Auggies, who had broken a 12-game losing streak with a victory
over Hamline on Monday.
Liz Meskan (So., New Prague, Minn.) had 14 points, eight
rebounds, four assists and four steals for Augsburg, while Adrienne
Tietz (Jr., Shakopee, Minn./Monticello HS) had 10 points and
eight rebounds.
Augsburg hosts St. Olaf in its season finale on Friday night at
7:30 p.m., while St. Mary's wraps up its season with a 3 p.m.
game Saturday at Concordia-Moorhead.
