Women's Golf 9/1/05 -- Augsburg College Invitational

MEDINA, Minn. (9/1/05) -- Holly Noble shot a 39 on the final nine holes, the lone sub-40 back-nine of the tournament, to earn medalist honors for the University of St. Thomas, as the Tommies claimed team honors at the five-team Augsburg College Invitational women's golf tournament, held on Thursday afternoon at the Baker National Golf Course.

St. Thomas had six of the top eight scores in the 32-golfer field to win the single-day, 18-hole tournament by 31 strokes, compiling a 342 total. Carleton was second with 373, Wisconsin-River Falls was third with 380, host Augsburg was fourth with 387 and Macalester was fifth with 392.

Noble won the tournament with a nine-over-par 83, two strokes ahead of teammate Kerry Shea with 85. Katie Potts shot 86 and Megan Hanson shot 88 to round out the top four places for Tommie golfers.

Laura Henry (Jr., Hugo, Minn./Forest Lake HS) shot 89 to place fifth for Augsburg. Carleton was led by Kate Waller, who shot 92 to place seventh. Wisconsin-River Falls was led by Kara Coughlin and Jenna Gutzwiller, who each shot 93 to tie for ninth, while Macalester's Jordan Matheson also shot 93 to lead the Scots.

The tournament was held in extremely windy conditions at the Baker National layout.
