10/8/06 -- MIAC Women's Golf Championships -- Round 2 ROUND 2 STATISTICS (PDF FILES): ROUND 2 STATISTICS (TXT FILES): COON RAPIDS, Minn. (10/8/06) -- Holly Noble followed up her opening-round 76 with a second-round, 2-over-par 75, to take a 12-stroke lead in the individual competition, while enabling her University of St. Thomas squad to maintain the lead in the team race after the second day of theMinnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships, held Sunday at Bunker Hills Golf Course. St. Thomas, winners of the last five conference team titles, shot the second-lowest team round in the 18-year history of the MIAC championships with a second-day 319, to stand at 659 strokes after the second round of the three-round, 54-hole event. Concordia-Moorhead shot a 318 team total in the second round of the 1998 championships for the team single-round scoring record. The Tommies have a 21-stroke lead in the team competition, ahead of Gustavus' 680. The Gusties shot 337 as a team in Sunday's second round. Macalester stands in third place with a 694 team total, after shooting 343 on Sunday. Should the Tommies claim their sixth straight title after Monday's final round, they would match the six straight titles by Concordia from 1995-2000 for the longest run of consecutive team titles. Concordia and St. Thomas are the lone schools to have won MIAC women's golf conference titles in the previous 17 years of the competition, with Concordia winning 11 crowns and St. Thomas six. Noble is 12 strokes ahead of three pursuers -- two from Macalester (Karla Leon and Jordan Matheson) and one from St. Thomas (Laura Klatt) -- who are tied for second place with 163 totals after the second round. Klatt has the only other sub-80 round after Noble's in the 44-golfer competition, as she shot a 78 on Sunday. With a two-round total of 151, Noble set a conference record for the lowest 36-hole total, surpassing the previous record of 152, set by Jenni Kovash of Concordia in 1998. In addition to Noble and Klatt, fellow Tommie Megan Hanson also sits in the top 10, as she is currently tied for ninth with a 170 total. Gustavus also has three individuals in the top 10 places. Rachel Roberg is in seventh place (167), Kali Griggs is in eighth place (168) and Kimbra Kosak is tied for ninth (170). Carleton is in fourth place in the team competition (711), with Kassie Wells sitting in fifth place (165). Concordia-Moorhead is in fifth (716), with Afton Pender leading the way for the Cobbers with a sixth-place 166. Laura Henry of Augsburg is also in the top 10, tied for ninth with a 170 total after two rounds. St. Mary's moved up two places after the second round to stand in sixth place (732), while St. Olaf remains in seventh (733). St. Benedict is in eighth place (738), followed by Augsburg (792). The final round of the competition begins at 9 a.m. (shotgun start) on Monday at Bunker Hills. The tournament is a 54-hole event for the first time.
