MINNEAPOLIS
(1/13/01) -- Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm
Public HS) and Dottie Gilkerson (Fr., Somerset, Wis.) had
two goals and an assist apiece to lead Augsburg College to an
8-1 victory over Bethel College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference women's hockey game Thursday night at the
Augsburg Ice Arena.
Stephanie
Johnson (Sr.,
Champlin, Minn./Anoka HS) had a goal and three assists for a four-point
night for the Auggies, who improved to 5-8-0 overall and 5-6-0
in the MIAC. Bethel falls to 3-10-0 overall and 3-8-0 in the MIAC,
dropping its fifth straight game.
A four-goal
second-period outburst provided the difference in the game for
the Auggies, who outshot Bethel by a 37-18 margin and controlled
the flow of the action for most of the game.
Gilkerson's
goal midway through the first period opened the scoring for the
Auggies, and Rieger, Brenda Selander (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan
HS), Annie Mattison (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska/East HS) and
Christina Hughes (Fr., Chaska, Minn.) provided the Auggie
tallies in the second period.
Bethel put 11
shots on net in the third period. Heidi Anderson (So.,
Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had the lone goal for the Royals,
on the power play, at the 3:29 mark of the final frame.
But the Auggies
poured three goals after that, with Johnson collecting her lamp-lighter
and Gilkerson and Johnson netting their second goals of the game
each.
Auggie goalie
Katie Fedoryk (Fr., Austin, Minn.) made 17 saves to score
the victory, while Kim Myers (Jr., Coon Rapids, Minn.)
made 29 saves in a losing effort.
The teams complete
their two-game MIAC series on Saturday afternoon (1/20) at 4:50
p.m. at the Columbia Ice Arena in Fridley, Minn., Bethel's home
rink.
