ST. PAUL, Minn.
(2/8/01) -- Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm
Public HS) and Stephanie Johnson (Sr., Champlin, Minn./Anoka
HS) had five-point nights each, leading Augsburg College to a
10-0 victory over Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference women's hockey game Thursday night at the
State Fair Coliseum.
Rieger had a hat trick, the fifth of her career, while adding
two assists; Johnson had two goals and three assist as Augsburg
improved to 10-10 overall and 7-8 in MIAC play. Hamline dropped
to 2-19 overall and 1-14 in the MIAC.
Augsburg scored three goals in the first period and five goals
in the second to spur the blowout, as the Auggies outshot the
Pipers by a 51-29 margin.
Katie Cheese (Jr., Shakopee, Minn.)
and Annie Mattison (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska/East HS) had
a goal and two assists each for three-point nights, while April
Leger (Jr., Austin, Minn.) scored two goals. Dottie Gilkerson
(Fr., Somerset, Wis.) had a goal and assist, and Brenda
Selander (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) and Angie Gliniany
(Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) had two assists each.
Katie Fedoryk
(Fr.,
Austin, Minn.) made 29 saves to score the first shutout of her
collegiate career; Emily Krinhop (Fr., Eagan, Minn.) and
Karen McGaa (Jr., Edina, Minn./Convent of Visitation HS)
combined for 41 saves for the Pipers.
The game also
featured a rarity -- no penalties by either team. It is just the
eighth time in Augsburg's six-year varsity history -- the fifth
time this season -- that the Auggies have played a penalty-free
game.
The teams close
their MIAC series Friday night (2/9) at 7:05 p.m. at Augsburg
Ice Arena.
