MINNEAPOLIS
(2/9/01) -- Stephanie Johnson (Sr., Champlin, Minn./Anoka
HS) scored two goals and added two assists for a four-point night,
leading Augsburg College to a 9-0 victory over Hamline University
in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey
game Friday night at Augsburg Ice Arena.
Thirteen of the 15 skaters in Augsburg's lineup figured in the
scoring, as Augsburg swept the series from the Pipers and improved
to 11-10 overall and 8-8 in MIAC play. Hamline dropped to 2-20
overall and 1-15 in the MIAC.
A six-goal second period opened the game, which was controlled
by the Auggies from the start. Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 61-13
margin, and controlled the puck in the offensive end for most
of the game.
The game was the final home contest at Augsburg Ice Arena for
six seniors -- Johnson, Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New
Ulm Public HS), Carrie McCarville (Sr., Hopkins, Minn./Benilde-St.
Margaret HS), Brenda Selander (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan
HS), Anne Osberg (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) and
Amber Nadreau (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian HS).
Rieger had a goal and two assists for a three-point night, lifting
her season scoring total to team highs of 20 goals and 15 assists
for 35 points.
Laura McGowan (Jr., Fridley, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS)
and Kristi Brusletto (Jr., Basalt, Colo.) had a goal and
assist each, while Angie Gliniany (Jr., Brooklyn Park,
Minn./Park Center HS) had two assists.
Kristen Opalinski (So., Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe HS)
stopped all 13 shots she faced to claim her second collegiate
shutout in goal for the Auggies. Emily Krinhop (Fr., Eagan,
Minn.) made 52 saves for the Pipers.
Augsburg closes the season with a two-game series at Concordia-Moorhead
next Friday (2/16) at 7 p.m. and Saturday (2/17) at 2 p.m. Hamline
closes its season with a two-game series against Gustavus Adolphus.
Friday's game is at the State Fair Coliseum at 7:30 p.m., while
Saturday's game is at Gustavus at 2:05 p.m.
