MINNEAPOLIS (11/15/02) -- Maureen Hardwick (Fr., Warroad, Minn.) and Tomery Stolz (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) had two goals an an assist each, leading the University of St. Thomas to a 7-3 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Saturday afternoon at Augsburg Ice Arena.

Augsburg took a 1-0 lead into the second period, but St. Thomas turned on the jets in the second, scoring six of the seven second-period goals to take a commanding 6-2 lead into the locker room. Both teams added goals in the closing minutes of the third period.

St. Thomas swept the weekend series in improving to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg remains winless at 0-5 overall and 0-2 in MIAC play.

Stolz opened the floodgates for the Tommies in the second period, scoring on a shorthanded breakaway at the 2:04 mark. After Augsburg's Corrie Krzyska (So., Fridley, Minn.) put the Auggies back in front 56 seconds later, the Tommies took command, scoring the next five goals. Sue Heinmiller (Fr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored at the 5:28 mark, then Mel Drake (Fr., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Tanaya Reitz (Fr., Moorhead, Minn.) scored goals in a 12-second span midway through the frame.

Hardwick scored twice in the period, on a 4-on-4 goal at the 13:39 mark and with a blast from the point on the power play at the 18:54 mark.

Annie Annunziato (Jr., Commack, N.Y.) scored twice for Augsburg, on the power play with six seconds left in the first period, and on a goal at the 13:31 mark of the third period.

Stolz added her second goal of the game for the Tommies with 17 seconds remaining in the game.

St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 41-20 margin, outshooting the Auggies 83-37 in the weekend series. Katie Fedoryk (Jr., Austin, Minn.) made 18 saves in two periods of play for the Auggies, with Laura Hind (So., Lafayette, Colo./Quest Academy HS) making 16 saves in the third period. Danielle Mikolai (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS0 made 17 saves for the Tommies.

Reitz had a three-point day for the Tommies, with a goal and two assists. Drake had a goal and assist, and Jenny Sorenson (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) had two assists.

Lauren Chezick (So., Hastings, Minn.) had two assists for Augsburg, with Genevieve Allegreeza (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska/Service HS), Laura Prasek (So., Fridley, Minn.) and Carrie Velenchenko (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) also adding assists.

Both teams have MIAC series next Friday and Saturday (11/22-23). Augsburg faces St. Mary's, with Friday's game at 4:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena and Saturday's game at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's. St. Thomas hosts Gustavus on Friday at 7 p.m. and plays at Gustavus on Saturday at 2 p.m.
