MINNEAPOLIS (1/9/04) -- Katie Fedoryk (Sr., Austin, Minn.) scored her third shutout of the season and seventh of her career with 22 saves, as Augsburg College returned from the holiday break by breaking a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Bethel College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Augsburg outshot Bethel 36-22 and dominated play throughout in improving to 5-5 overall, 3-3 in MIAC play. Bethel, which had beaten Augsburg 3-2 on Dec. 11, falls to 1-6-1 overall, 1-4-1 in MIAC play.

Augsburg scored at the 15-minute mark of the first period, as Melynda Kleewein (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) one-timed a shot from a solid cross-ice feed from Christina Hughes (Sr., Chaska, Minn.).

Hughes also assisted on the second Auggie goal, as Lauren Chezick (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) completed a three-way play from Annie Annunziato (Sr., Commack, N.Y.) at the 16:22 mark of the second period.

Kristin Murr (Fr., Thornton, Colo./Quest Academy HS) completed the scoring for the Auggies with her sixth goal of the season, sliding a shot past the Bethel goalie on a pass from Corrie Krzyska (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) at the 15:13 mark of the third period.

Amy Hockett (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) made 36 saves in a losing effort for the Royals. Augsburg outshot Bethel 26-9 through the first two periods.

Fedoryk's seventh career shutout ties her with teammate Kristin Johnson (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn..Wayzata HS) and Meg Schmidt (1996-2000) for the school's career shutout record.

Both teams return to action on Saturday (1/10) with nonconference games. Augsburg hosts Wisconsin-River Falls at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena, while Bethel hosts Wisconsin-Superior at 4 p.m. at the Columbia Ice Arena in Fridley.
