MINNEAPOLIS (12/5/03) -- Ingrid Neve (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Roseville HS), Katie Deschneau (Sr., Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Andrea Peterson (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) had a goal and assist apiece for Gustavus Adolphus College, as the Gusties claimed their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey victory of the season with a 3-1 triumph over host Augsburg College on Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Gustavus built a 3-0 lead with goals in each period, improving to 3-3-0 overall and 1-2 in MIAC play. Augsburg, which did not score until the final minutes of the contest, falls to 4-3-0 overall and 2-1 in MIAC play. The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (12/6) at 2:05 p.m. at Gustavus' Lund Ice Arena (Don Roberts Rink) in St. Peter, Minn.

Outshooting the Auggies by a 26-19 margin -- including a 22-9 edge in the first two periods -- Gustavus dominated play throughout the game, controlling the tempo and flow of action.

The Gusties scored their first goal on the power play at the 9:19 mark of the first period, as Neve scored her team-high fifth goal of the season on assists from Peterson and Deschneau. Deschneau scored her goal in the final minute of the second period, claiming a tally from Laura Stypulkowski (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Abby Randall (So., Minnetonka, Minn.).

Gustavus was 2-of-5 on its power plays, while Augsburg was 0-for-4.

Augsburg scored with 2:30 remaining in the game, when Lauren Chezick (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) scored her second goal of the season, on an assist from Stacy Anderson (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina HS).

Kara Meyer (Fr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) made 18 save, including nine in the final period, to score her first collegiate victory in goal for the Gusties. Augsburg goalie Kristin Johnson (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn./Wayzata HS) made 23 saves in a losing effort.
