Game Summary:
RICHMOND, Minn. (1/22/00) -- Annie Simons (Sr., South
St. Paul, Minn.) scored a power-play goal with 3:49 remaining,
lifting Augsburg College to a 1-0 win over the College of St.
Benedict in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's
hockey game Saturday afternoon at Augsburg Ice Arena.
Simons goal came on a feed from Angie Rieger (Jr., Courtland,
Minn./New Ulm Public HS) and Sarah Garrison (So., West
Des Moines, Iowa/Valley HS) to lift Augsburg to 8-4 overall and
6-0 in the MIAC. St. Benedict drops to 10-6-1 overall and 2-3-1
in the MIAC.
The game was surprisingly close, as St. Benedict goalie Kristen
Blumberg (So., St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) held
firm, making 33 saves in the game.
Auggie goalie Meg Schmidt (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn./Henry
Sibley HS) stopped all 27 shots she faced to notch her second
shutout of the season, tying a single-season school record in
the process. The previous record, two, was set by Kristin Lawson
last season.
Augsburg takes to a three-game East Coast swing this week,
starting the trip with a game at Rensselaer (RPI, N.Y.) on Wednesday
at 7 p.m. St. Benedict returns to action Feb. 4-5 with an MIAC
series against Bethel.
