Coaches Corner

 Head Coach Jill Pohtilla

Entering her fourth season as head coach of the Auggies, Jill Pohtilla has high hopes for a successful season.

A graduate of Wayzata High School and native of Plymouth, Minn, she has played hockey for more than 20 years. She was a member of the four-time national champion Minnesota Checkers girls hockey team.

Pohtilla attended college at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., where she played volleyball and softball for three years. She then transfered to the University of Minnesota, where she received a degree in psychology and biology in 1987.

Pohtilla coached at several schools before coming to Augsburg, including her alma mater, Wayzata. She has also coached hockey, softball, and volleyball at the high school level.

Her overall record after three years at Augsburg is 49-26-3. Augsburg captured the MCWHA Tournament championship in 1996-97 and was runner-up in 1997-98. Pohtilla was instrumental in the development of women's hockey as a varsity sport in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which is in its first season of league competition in 1998-99. She also has coached at the USA women's hockey national development camp in Lake Placid, N.Y. for the past two years. Pohtilla was president of the Minnesota Women's Hockey Coaches Association in 1989-90.

Jill also works as women's athletic recruiter at Augsburg College.

Assistant Coach Lori Sundelius

Lori Sundelius is in her third season with the Auggies, a 1987 graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in elementary education. "Sunny," Sundelius' nickname, is currently the director of St. Paul Parks and Recreation.

Sundelius coached the St. Paul United (Visitation and St. Paul Academy) high school hockey team from 1993-1996. She also has coached many sports at various levels both recreational and high school.

She is currently a member of the Women's Sports Foundation, Melpomene Institute, the Minnesota Coalition to Promote Women in Athletic Advisory Committee, and the American Hockey Coaches Association.

She is also currently playing hockey in the women's league and also plays softball in the off season.

Goalie Coach Jeanne Aura-Hall

Jeanne Aura-Hall, also in her third season with the Auggies, has brought great goalie experience and coaching ability to the program. A former goalie coach for Mounds View/Irondale girls high school hockey team (1994 to 1996), Aura-Hall has played on various men's and women's hockey leagues and is currently playing in the women's league for Twin City Express. This summer Aura-Hall played for Team Minnesota , a roller hockey team. On Team Minnesota, Aura-Hall has won many awards and made it to the nationals.

She also coaches at many hockey camps including Augsburg's Hockey Camp and the Doug Woog Girls Hockey Camp. Along with Sundelius, Aura-Hall is a member of the American Hockey Coaches Association.
