STORY FROM WISCONSIN-STEVENS POINT SPORTS INFORMATION

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (2/9/01) -- Brady Holtz and Yan White each recorded victories for the hosts, but it wasn't enough for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point wrestling team in a 33-6 loss to Augsburg College Friday night at Berg Gymnasium.

The Pointers fell to 7-6 overall with the loss to the Auggies, who are ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division III rankings and improved to 15-1 overall. UW-Stevens Point is ranked 20th in the nation.

Holtz picked up a 9-2 decision at 133 pounds with a victory over Troy Peterson, while White improved to 21-6 for the season with a 4-2 overtime victory over Augsburg's Kevin Rasmussen, who fell to 25-8 with the loss.

Wes Kapping, who is ranked fourth in the country at 174 pounds was tied 2-2 after two periods with Augsburg's Joe Moon, but lost 7-4. Mitch Gehring battled Ben Bauer, the nation's top-ranked heavyweight, to a 4-0 loss.

Augsburg won eight of the 10 matches in the dual, including a technical-fall victory from Brad Fisher at 141 pounds and a major decision from Tony Quance at 149. Drew Gau notched the only pin of the night with a first-period match-ender at 174.

The Pointers will host UW-River Falls Saturday at noon and UW-Eau Claire Saturday at 4 p.m. at Berg Gym. Augsburg hosts South Dakota State, the No. 4-ranked team in Division II, on Sunday (2/11) at 2 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
