CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (1/13/07) -- The Augsburg College wrestling team advanced to the semifinals of the National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen Division III National Duals on Saturday, winning 19 of 20 individual matches in claiming two dual-meet victories at the University of Northern Iowa's UNI-Dome.

Augsburg, the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III national rankings, won all 10 matches in a 50-0 victory over Simpson College (Iowa) in the opening match, then won nine of 10 matches in a 35-3 quarterfinal triumph over No. 17-ranked Cornell College (Iowa).

Augsburg will face No. 6-ranked Johnson and Wales (R.I.) on Sunday (1/14) at 11 a.m. in the semifinals. In its action on Saturday, Johnson and Wales topped No. 20 Buena Vista (Iowa) 24-19, then beat No. 28 Olivet (Mich.) 29-10 in the quarterfinals.

In the other half of the Division III bracket, No. 2-ranked and defending national champion Wartburg (Iowa) also claimed a shutout in its opening dual, a 51-0 win over Ohio Northern, then topped No. 9-ranked Coe (Iowa) 21-12 in its quarterfinal match. The Knights will face No. 8 Delaware Valley (Pa.) in the other semifinal on Sunday at 11 a.m. Delaware Valley opened its tournament with a 26-18 win over No. 21-ranked North Central (Ill.), then upset No. 4 Luther (Iowa) 19-17 in the quarterfinals.

In the previous five NWCA Division III National Duals in its current format (16-team bracket), Augsburg and Wartburg have met in each of the championship matches. Wartburg has won three times (2003, 2004, 2006), while Augsburg has won twice (2002, 2005).

The Auggies are now 5-0 on the season, having won 45 of 50 individual matches in its five team victories this season. Against teams from Divisions II and III, Augsburg is now 212-16 since the 1989-90 season, losing just 11 matches to non-Division I opponents since the 1995-96 season. Against teams from Division III, Augsburg is now 226-19 since the 1979-80 season and 150-9 since 1989-90. Augsburg has won nine Division III national titles in the last 16 seasons.

In the victory over Simpson, Augsburg claimed four pins, two major decisions and two forfeits among its 10 victories. George Lynaugh (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) claimed the quickest pin of the day, a 29-second match-ender at 184 pounds. Seth Flodeen (So., Cannon Falls, Minn.), ranked No. 3 at 125, also had a sub-minute pin, with a 47-second victory. Andy Robinson (Fr., Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS) claimed a first-period pin at 197, and Andrew Neumann (Sr., Somerset, Wis.), ranked No. 6 at heavyweight, scored a second-period pin.

Jeremy Anderson (Jr., Thief River Falls, Minn.), ranked No. 1 at 157 pounds, moved up to 165 and scored a 10-1, major-decision win. Robbie Gotreau (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), ranked No. 3 at 174, also claimed a major-decision win, 12-1.

In the match against Cornell, Augsburg won all three meetings of ranked wrestlers. In the opening match, No. 3-ranked Flodeen claimed a 4-3 win over No. 2-ranked Chris Heilman of Cornell. In the 133-pound match, top-ranked Jafari Vanier (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) remained unbeaten at 7-0 with a 9-4 win over No. 4-ranked Nick Nothern. At 157, top-ranked Anderson improved to 19-0 with a 3-0 decision over No. 8-ranked Pat McAuley of Cornell.

Gotreau claimed a second-period pin at 174, while Quincy Osborn (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.), ranked No. 2 at 141, scored a third-period pin to improve to 24-1 on the season. Jared Evans (Sr., Blue Earth, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS), ranked No. 4 at 149, improved to 20-1 with an 11-1 major-decision victory in the Cornell match.
