MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/14/00) -- Claiming eight of the 10 weight classes, including three by pin, Augsburg College claimed a 37-6 victory over host Moorhead State in a nonconference wrestling dual meet Friday night at Alex Nemzek Hall.

Augsburg, the top-ranked team in the lastest NCAA Division III national poll, improves to 4-1 overall in dual meets, while Moorhead State, a Division II squad, drops to 5-2 overall.

The Auggies claimed three pins en route to the dominating win. The first came from Tony Abbott (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Thomas Academy), who moved up to the varsity squad for the first time last week and improved to 14-5 on the year at 165 pounds. Nick Slack (So., Belle Plaine, Minn.) improved to 16-0 overall with the pin victory at 174, and Josh Clausen (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) moved to 15-1 overall with his pin win at 197.

Brian Jones (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) notched his third technical fall of the season with his 16-1 victory at 141 to move to 15-4 overall. Josh Cagle (Sr., Faribault, Minn.) remained unbeaten at 21-0 with his win at 149.

Jason Thompson (Sr., Benson, Minn.; 157 pounds) and Erik Johnson (Fr., Menahga, Minn.; 184) claimed the lone wins for Moorhead State.

Augsburg travels to St. Cloud State on Saturday (1/15) at 2 p.m., while Moorhead State returns to action on Jan. 22 at 5 p.m. with a dual against Central Missouri State in Marshall, Minn.
