Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (10/28/99) Joanna Fitzhugh (So.,
Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) scored off a corner kick
feed from Katie Lentz (So., Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS)
in the 59th minute Thursday night, putting St. Mary's University
on the board en route to a 2-1 win over host Augsburg College
in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer
game at Anderson-Nelson Field.
Fitzhugh's goal, combined with Erin Elder's (Jr., Bloomington,
Minn./Jefferson HS) goal from Mary Voigt (So., South St.
Paul, Minn.) eight minutes later, lifted St. Mary's to 11-4-1
overall and 4-3-1 in the MIAC. Augsburg drops to 2-14 overall
and 1-8 in the MIAC.
St. Mary's outshot Augsburg by a 22-3 margin, keeping the ball
in the Augsburg end for most of the game. Katie Cheese (So.,
Shakopee, Minn.) made nine saves for the Auggies, while Colleen
O'Hearn (So., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) made all three
saves in the net for the Cardinals.
Augsburg finishes its season with a game at Gustavus on Saturday
(10/30/99) at 3 p.m. St. Mary's hosts Hamline on Saturday at 1
p.m.
