Counseling and Health Promotion - Services

Counseling

The center's counseling services support and assist students in coping with personal difficulties that may interfere with their personal or academic progress. Students may use counseling to engage in problem solving about a number of issues, including depression, anxiety, transition, relationship building, loneliness, and loss. The goal of counseling is personal growth, and there are many reasons students choose to participate in counseling. Students never need to feel that their problems are not important enough to see a counselor; if it is a concern to the student, it will be a concern to the counselor.

Confidentiality policy:

The counseling center is staffed by professional psychologists and services are confidential. Within ethical and legal guidelines, information shared with a counselor cannot be shared with faculty, staff, or parents without the student's written consent.

Services offered include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Crisis intervention
  • Group counseling
  • Consultation and referral
  • Resource information
  • Workshops and training

Employee Assistance Program for Faculty & Staff:

Any Augsburg employee who qualifies for benefits is eligible for short-term counseling and referrals through Augsburg's Employee Assistance Program, UNUM's LifeBalance (1-800-854-1446, 24 hours). Telephone consultations, personalized referrals for services in the community, up to three face-to-face consultations on issues including emotional well-being, financial issues, legal concerns, addiction and recovery, parenting and child care, education, issues for older adults, and work issues. To use services, you will need a reference number which is available through Human Resources (or can be found on your "Universal Access" card which HR issues to each employee with benefits).
