FACULTY - Sandra L Olmsted
Associate Professor
“I believe that no one can teach effectively unless students believe that whatever needs to be learned in this course matters to them, and that they matter to the teacher.”
Sandra Olmsted, associate professor, is not only an Augsburg alumna and the mother of three Augsburg graduates, but has been teaching at the College since 1978. Her teaching philosophy centers on a ”triangle” of engagement between students, experience, and the teacher.
“Paramount is establishing an atmosphere of engagement with science. Science advances from experience, observation, and critical analysis. The time spent in the laboratory is perhaps the most important, in terms of making connections between fact and theory. Significant personal and professional growth occurs for students within the laboratory experience.”
“Augsburg has a strong commitment to the value of each human being, and that a person’s gifts were given not just to them, for their benefit, but for a larger purpose. We are willing to help students discover their gifts and develop them. We have high standards and expectations, and guided by this, will advise, guide, mentor and teach. We commit to helping each student rise to the highest level of achievement possible, and we expect them to work hard.”
