FACULTY - Sarah Myers

Assistant Professor

Sarah Myers holds a Ph.D. in Performance as Public Practice from the University of Texas at Austin, where she also earned her M.F.A. in Playwriting and Drama & Theatre for Youth.  At Augsburg, she teaches Theatre History & Criticism, Creative Drama, Playwriting, and Script Analysis.  Her research interests include girls' cultural studies, auto/biographical and collective performance, new play dramaturgy, community-based theater, and feminist performance.

A recent transplant from Texas, Sarah is a company member with Austin-based Rude Mechanicals, for whom she co-directed a writing, performance, and artistic mentorship program for teenage girls called Grrl Action for over four years.

As a playwright and performer, Sarah's work has been featured at the Blue Theater, the Off Center, Hyde Park Theatre (Austin), Columbia College's Center for Book & Paper Arts (Chicago), and the Bonderman National Playwriting Symposium (Indianapolis).  Her most recent playwriting project, Portmanteau, performed by Carra Martinez, directed by Julia Smith, and designed by Karen LaShelle and Eliot Haynes, is part one-woman show, part interactive dinner party, part fun-filled lesson plan, and part experiment in what makes stories "real."
