FACULTY - Sarah Combellick-Bidney

Assistant Professor

Sarah Combellick-Bidney grew up in New York City, went to college in Ohio, and attended graduate school in Indiana, finding opportunities to travel and work internationally along the way. In teaching, as well as research, she uses case studies to compare the political experiences of individuals, communities, countries and regions.

"I place teaching at the center of my life. In my courses, I invite students to set parameters for ethical leadership, identify questions of common concern, and forge meaningful connections with others both inside and outside the classroom."

She was initially drawn to seek a position at Augsburg College by its emphasis on vocation, caritas, and community. Over the years, she has found her academic career and activism to be mutually reinforcing. The connections between individual and collective action are made real to her as she witnesses them in her community and sees them take shape in the classroom. Most of all, she enjoys getting to know students and their interests, learning from them, and finding new ways to use political science to empower them on any life path they choose to take.
