Information for Guests

Each graduate can receive five announcements free from the bookstore. Additional announcements can be purchased from the campus bookstore, during regular bookstore hours or at the Grad Fair. Personalized announcements require a three-week order time.

Tickets for Commencement

Because of limited seating, each candidate is allocated up to four guest tickets. Graduates should thoroughly read the information on the Tickets page and then indicate the number of tickets needed on the Commencement Participation and Ticket Request Form.  Due to system requirements, only the graduate is allowed to submit the form and/or request tickets.

All guests including infants and children need a ticket.

Extra Tickets

Students may have the opportunity to request “Extra Tickets” to the ceremony on the Commencement Participation and Ticket Request Form. These tickets are NOT guaranteed and will be filled on a first-come, first served basis as tickets are available.

Please see the Tickets section for more complete information.

Livestream of Ceremony

If you have additional friends and family that would like to be able to see you participate in Commencement, each ceremony will be streamed online.  To view your ceremony, guests can visit and there will be a streaming window on the main page on the day of the event.

Unticketed Overflow–Sateren Auditorium

Family and/or friends of graduates who will be present during the weekend, but were unable to get tickets to the ceremony, may watch the livestream of the ceremony in our unticketed overflow in Sateren Auditorium.  Unticketed guests are welcome to attend any post-ceremony departmental receptions.

Seating for the Disabled and/or Elderly

The majority of available general admission seating is on bleachers. However, reserved seating for the disabled and elderly is available on a first-come, first-served basis on the main floor. One family member may sit with the disabled or elderly guest(s).

Please see the Tickets section for more complete information.

Accessibility Requirements & Signing for the Hearing Impaired

ASL interpretation for graduates or guests with hearing impairments will be provided for both commencement ceremonies. Please contact the University Events office if you will require access to this service or have additional accessibility needs.

Ceremony Schedule

Please see the Event Details section for a complete schedule of events.

Professional Photography

Arrangements have been made for GradImages, a professional photography service, to take photos of each graduate as they receive their degree. Free proofs will be mailed to the graduate’s permanent home address after Commencement. The graduate (or you) may then choose to purchase prints directly from the photography service. Please note that you are under no obligation to order.

Students can visit the GradImages web site to pre-register for photography at their ceremony.

Personal Cameras or Camcorders

You and your guests are welcome to bring personal cameras and camcorders to the ceremony. However, you will not be allowed to be in the aisles where graduates are processing during the conferring of the degrees.

To ensure that everyone has the ability to see and hear their family member’s name during the graduation ceremony, balloons, signs and/or noisemakers are not allowed into Si Melby as they may obstruct sight lines for other guests or make hearing the ceremony more difficult.

Due to space restrictions and to ensure we can seat as many guests as possible, strollers are not allowed inside Si Melby Gymnasium during the ceremony. A holding room will be available nearby for storing any strollers brought onsite. Do not leave valuables or other personal items with your strollers. Augsburg is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
