General Information for Grads

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Commencement announcements inform relatives and friends of your graduation. Each graduate can receive five announcements free from the bookstore. Additional announcements can be purchased from the bookstore, during regular bookstore hours or at the Grad Fair. Personalized announcements require a three-week order time.

TICKETS FOR COMMENCEMENT
Because of limited seating, each candidate is allocated up to five guest tickets. Please thoroughly read the information on the ticket information page and then indicate the number of tickets needed on the Commencement Participation and Ticket Request FormAll guests including infants and children need a ticket.

EXTRA TICKETS
Students may request up to five “Extra Tickets” to the ceremony on the Commencement Participation and Ticket Request Form.  These tickets are NOT guaranteed and will be filled on a first-come, first served basis as tickets are available.

SEATING FOR DISABLED AND ELDERLY GUESTS
The majority of available general admission seating is on bleachers.  However, reserved seating for the disabled and elderly is available on a first-come, first-served basis on the main floor. One family member may sit with the disabled or elderly guest (s). 

SIGNING FOR HEARING IMPAIRED
Sign interpretation for graduates or guests with hearing impairments will be provided for both commencement ceremonies.  Please contact Sadie Curtis at 612.330.1749 if you will require access to this service.

SEATING FOR GRADUATES WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
If you will require special accommodations for seating during your graduation ceremony, please contact Sadie Curtis at 612.330.1749 and she will work with you to ensure that you are taken care of.  We encourage all students requiring special seating to attend their respective rehearsal so that seating can be pre-arranged and set up for you and anyone that will need to be seated with you during the ceremony.

CEREMONY SCHEDULE
Seating begins at 10 a.m. and the ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Arrangements have been made for Chappell Studios, a professional photography service, to take your photo as you receive your degree. Free proofs will be mailed to your permanent home address after Commencement. You may then choose to purchase prints directly from the photography service. Please note that you are under no obligation to order. Visit the Chapell Studios web site to pre-register for photography at the June 28 ceremony.

PARKING INSTRUCTIONS
Augsburg College parking lots and the Fairview-University Medical Center’s RED Parking Ramp are available for the Commencement events at Augsburg College on June 28. On-street parking is monitored by the city of Minneapolis and has two- and four-hour limits and availability is limited. The University of Minnesota also has parking ramps on 21st Avenue and on 19th Avenue. Please allow extra time for parking when arriving for events.

CAP AND GOWN INFORMATION
Caps and gowns may be purchased at the bookstore in the Oren Gateway Center, during the Grad Fair:

Friday

February 27

11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Saturday

February 28

11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

If you are unable to attend the Grad Fair you may purchase your cap and gown during regular bookstore hours:

Monday - Friday

8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Saturday

9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

All students participating in the ceremony should have cap and gown purchased 2 weeks prior to the ceremony to ensure size availability.

Academic dress (cap and gown) is worn for both the Baccalaureate service and the commencement ceremony.

  • Gowns are worn closed, without jewelry, flowers, or other accessories.
  • Honor cords are worn around the neck.

For all candidates, caps are worn with the mortar board flat (parallel to the floor), short point to the front. Tassels are worn to the right throughout the day. Men should remove their caps for prayers.

Graduate students purchase their hoods at the bookstore and receive them during the commencement ceremony.
