Eligibility Criteria


Students applying to the program must be/have:

  • Undergraduate Student of Color (American Indian, Hispanic/Latino, Pan-Afrikan, Pan Asian)
  • Demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office
  • Demonstrated involvement in community, on or off campus
  • Demonstrated leadership ability or potential
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5

They must complete the following:

  • Scholastic Connections ApplicationĀ  (due 2/28)
  • Letter of Recommendation by someone other than a family member (due 2/28)
  • Incoming freshmen should have a completed financial aid file by 2/28

Not Eligible: Students who have full tuition scholarships (Promise Scholars, Act 6 Scholars and full President Scholars, etc.)


Individuals wishing to be Mentors for Scholastic Connections must be/have:

  • Alumna/us of Color
  • Interest in working with a College student
  • Able to commit to a minimum of 16 one-on-one meetings with their Scholar plus attend a minimum of 4 out of 6 Scholastic Connections gatheringsĀ per year
  • A preponderance of the following skills:
    • Building and maintaining relationships
    • Goal Setting
    • Guiding
    • Managing conflict
    • Problem solving
    • Providing/receiving feedback
    • Reflection
