Eligibility Criteria

Scholars

Students applying to the program must be/have:

• Student of Color (American Indian, Hispanic/Latino, Pan-Afrikan, Pan Asian)
• Applicants must have completed at least one semester at Augsburg College prior to starting the program, or be advanced-standing transfer students
• Demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office
• Demonstrated involvement in community, on or off campus
• Demonstrated leadership ability or potential
• Minimum GPA of 2.0

They must complete the following:

• Scholastic Connections Application  (due 3/1)
• Letter of Recommendation by someone other than a family member (due 3/1)
• Interview with SC Director (completion by 3/15)

Mentors

Individuals wishing to be Mentors for Scholastic Connections must be/have:

• Alumna/us of Color
• Interest in working with a College student
• Able to commit to a minimum of 16 one-on-one meetings with their Scholar plus attend a minimum of 6 out of 9 Scholastic Connections gatherings per year
• A preponderance of the following skills:
  • Building and maintaining relationships
  • Goal Setting
  • Guiding
  • Managing conflict
  • Problem solving
  • Providing/receiving feedback
  • Reflection
