Center for Teaching and Learning - Campus Safety
- You can reach the Department of Public Safety all day, every day by calling x1717 from an on-campus phone or 612-330-1717 from an off-campus phone. This is the only number answered 24x7 at Augsburg. If you don't know who else to call, call DPS and we will do our best to assist you.
- The most common crime at Augsburg is opportunistic theft. Wallets, computers and other valuables that are left unattended are easily stolen. Don't leave your valuables unattended!
- Lock your office WHENEVER you leave, even if it is just for a minute. Home burglaries usually take less than two minutes. Office burglaries take even less time.
- Groups of people are much less likely to be harassed or victims of crime. When possible, walk with a friend or colleague. Escorts are available 24x7 by calling the Department of Public Safety at x1717 or 612-330-1717.
- Walk with purpose and make eye contact with people as you pass. Stick to well lit and traveled areas.
- A permit is required to park you car on campus. Permits are available for the semester, year or by the day. Refer to the DPS web site for more information.
- Don't leave valuables visible in your car. If possible, leave them at home. If not, lock them in your trunk BEFORE you get to your final destination.
- Keep your car keys on you at all times. This is especially important if your vehicle has a remote unlocking device.
- If you encounter a fire, pull the alarm (if you can do so safely) and leave the building. If the fire alarm goes off, gather your class and leave the building. If possible, close doors behind you as you leave. Wait with your class outside to be sure your students safely exit the building.
- Pressing the red "call" button on the yellow emergency phones will directly connect you with the Public Safety dispatcher.
