The Jessica Nathanson Scholarly Writing Retreat
The third annual Scholarly Writing Retreat will be held at Dunrovin Retreat Center near Marine on St. Croix from 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 29 to 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 31. Initiated by Jessica Nathanson, the retreat gives scholars time and space to work on scholarship, undistracted by meetings, classes, or even children and family responsibilities. Some come to plan an approach to a new project to be completed over the summer; others use it as an opportunity to finish articles they have been working on during the year. The retreat will be hosted by Colin Irvin and Melissa Hensley. Those interested in participating should contact Sarah Hedstrom (hedstrom@augsburg.edu). Registrants are accepted on a first come-first serve basis.
Scholarly Writing Circles
Faculty are encouraged to form self-organizing writing circles to collaborate on grant writing or research, or to simply support one another in writing endeavors. Work culture grants are available to provide support for materials that support your work together. Use the Group and Individual Project application on the CTL website.
Faculty Summer Scholarship Grants
Two Dean’s Summer Scholarship Grants ($4000) and two Grangaard Summer Scholarship Grants ($2000) are available to support faculty summer scholarship activities. Applications should be submitted to CTL no later than March 15. For more information and to submit applications, contact Velma Lashbrook (lashbroo@augsburg.edu).
Professional Travel Grants
Professional Travel Grants are available to support travel to professional conferences and workshops for presenters (up to $1200 per year) and participants (up to $800) on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, two competitive grants are available for international travel (up to $2000; applications are due January 15 for travel during the next fiscal year). Submit applications for Professional Travel on the CTL website.
Scholarship Showcase
The Scholarship Showcase is a display of publications by Augsburg faculty presented at the annual Faculty Recognition Luncheon, which will be held May 3. If you have a book, article, composition, script, piece of art work, etc. that we can include in the showcase, please contact Sarah Hedstrom (hedstrom@augsburg.edu).
Consulting
Faculty volunteers with expertise in a variety of scholarship methods are available to consult with you about your scholarly activities. Requests for consultants should be submitted to Velma Lashbrook (lashbroo@augsburg.edu).
Zyzzogeton (sponsored by URGO)
Augsburg celebrates the creativity and scholarship of undergraduate students with its annual Zyzzogeton festival. The festival falls at the end of each academic year and is a culmination of achievement featuring work across divisions and departments. A "zyzzogeton" is a green leaf-hopper as well as the last word in the Webster Collegiate Dictionary, which is a fitting symbol to mark the end of the academic year.
Undergraduate Student Summer Research Grants (sponsored by URGO)
Undergraduate students are eligible for full-time ($4000) and part-time ($2000) grants for on-campus summer research. Faculty mentors receive $1000 per mentee receiving a grant. Numerous off-campus opportunities are also available to students. For more information, go to the URGO website or public folder, or contact sanowa@augsburg.edu.
