For you and your family, paying for college can be a challenge. We want to help you see how Augsburg can be an affordable choice for you.
Start by estimating your costs (tuition, fees, room and board, estimated cost of books, transportations costs and personal expenses). Next, we encourage you to apply for aid, even if you aren't sure you will qualify. After you receive a financial aid award notice from Augsburg, discuss it with a financial aid counselor to determine the best financing plan for you.
Types of Aid
Augsburg awards several types of financial aid including "gift aid" (scholarships and grants, both merit and need-based, from federal, state, or institutional sources), student loans, and work study.
How to Apply for Financial Aid
- First, attend a financial aid info session at Augsburg. We'll explain the process and help you get started. Dates are on
- Between January 1 and April 15 of your senior year of high school, complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Form.
- Receive your financial aid pre-award letter and review it with a financial aid counselor.
- The FAFSA is just the beginning. (We know...more paperwork!) In order to complete your application and to finalize your award, we need an Augsburg verification worksheet and copies of your federal income taxes (1040) or a statement of non-filing. You'll find forms and instructions at the Financial Aid Office.
Estimating your Aid
Your need-based financial aid is calculated using information gathered from the FAFSA which provides our financial aid office with your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC will be the same for every school to which you apply. We compare your EFC to the total cost of attendance (tuition, fees, room and board, estimated cost of books, transportations costs, and personal expenses) to determine your demonstrated need at Augsburg.
It is important to note that although the FAFSA is a nationwide tool that takes certain prescribed numbers and runs them through a standard formula, we look at each student and family individually. If your family has a unique circumstance, such as impending loss of a job, health issues, etc, that is not reflected on the FAFSA, contact our Financial Aid office for instructions on how to communicate these circumstances.
Other Financing Options
Augsburg offers payment plans that may be used to finance the portion of tuition, fees, room and board not covered by financial aid.
