Financial Aid

Estimate your Aid

Gift aid equals all scholarships and grants both merit and need based, and from federal, state and institutional sources. That means that the level of the award is impacted by academic qualifications. In addition, there are other variables, such as family size, number of children in college, and family strength in assets which can mean that some families in a given income range will receive more gift aid, while others will receive less.

At Augsburg, your need-based financial aid is calculated on information gathered from the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). A standard formula is used to calculate your Estimated Family Contribution(EFC), basically an index that determines federal and state grant eligibility as well as federal loans. The EFC will be the same for every school to which you apply.

Once Augsburg has received your EFC we use it to determine your demonstrated need at Augsburg College. This is done in the following manner:

  1. Total Cost of Augsburg Education (tuition, fees, room and board, estimated cost of books, transportations costs and personal expenses)
  2. Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC)
  3. Your demonstrated need at Augsburg College

Once we have this information the dedicated financial aid staff at Augsburg College reviews each students file in order to put together an offer of scholarships, grants, loans, and work study that will make an Augsburg education affordable for you and your family.

It is important to note that although the FAFSA is a nationwide tool that takes certain prescribed numbers and runs them through a standard formula, we look at each student and family individually. This means if your family has a unique circumstance, such as impending loss of a job, health issues, etc, that is not reflected on the FAFSA, you should contact our Financial Aid Office for instructions on how to communicate this to us.

Average Financial Aid Information by Income Level:

Average Gift Aid for students with family income BELOW $40,000 = $18,046
Average Gift Aid for students with family income ABOVE $100,000 = $8,402

As stated earlier, each student’s file, complete with any unique circumstances, is reviewed by the financial aid staff before a package is put together. That same financial aid staff is also available to provide support and guidance throughout the entire financial aid process.
