Diversity Definition

Diversity at Augsburg College refers to the rich variety of backgrounds and characteristics found among humankind; thus, diversity embraces all aspects of our human differences and similarities.

We believe that creating a community that affirms and celebrates diversity is integral to building and sustaining a learning community. Therefore, Augsburg College students, faculty, staff and administrators are committed to:

Providing a transforming educational experience that maximizes and emphasizes personal and communal growth;

Fostering mutual respect and an appreciation of differences and similarities within the Augsburg College community, the local community, and the global community;

Promoting cross-cultural learning and understanding so that we at Augsburg grow in our capacity to create a hospitable learning community;

Implementing policies and procedures that support individuals, create community, address and diminish the effects of privilege, and promote equity.

Augsburg’s commitment to celebrating and affirming diversity will prepare us with both the theoretical learning and the practical experience to engage in creative community building and service to our world.
