2008-2009 Parking Information

Parking at Augsburg

As an urban campus, Augsburg College has always worked hard to maintain ample parking for its community.  We must facilitate parking and enforce procedure in order to accommodate the high usage of our limited parking areas on campus.  This site reviews parking policies and procedures.  Your cooperation in following parking regulations will be greatly appreciated by Public Safety and the Augsburg community. All questions concerning parking should be directed to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at 612-330-1717.

To help free up parking space and encourage environmental awareness, Augsburg College encourages carpooling and a special parking policy has been established with reserved spots for carpoolers.

CITY & AUGSBURG PERMITS - WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

City street parking regulations are enforced by the City of Minneapolis according to posted signs.  Please remember Snow Emergency parking regulations apply to city street parking. Call 612-348-SNOW for questions regarding snow emergency parking.

A City permit is required to park on most of the streets surrounding the college for longer than the posted limits. Only persons who actually live in the campus residence halls may purchase permits from the City of Minneapolis.  For detailed information on obtaining a City parking permit for Fall 2008, please go to www.augsburg.edu/dps/permitreg.html and follow the link to City Permit.

Augsburg Permits are for Augsburg College parking lots only, and areas of 21st Ave and 8th St labeled Augsburg Commuter Parking. Augsburg permits may be issued to faculty, staff, and students.   Augsburg permits are not valid on city streets. Permits are numbered and must be hung on rearview mirror clearly visible, with the college logo facing out the windshield.  Improperly displayed permits are subject to citation.  You must purchase an Augsburg permit in order to park in any Augsburg College parking lot.

Residents may purchase either an Augsburg College lot permit OR a City of Minneapolis street permit - not both.

PARKING POLICIES

CITATIONS & TOWING
Augsburg DPS personnel will begin issuing citations for vehicles without valid permits in all campus parking lots at 7am on the first day of Undergraduate classes, Sept. 3, 2008.

Parking fines must be paid to DPS at the dispatch center or mailed to DPS at Campus Box #78, within 10 days of the issue date. Unpaid fines will be assessed to the individual's Augsburg account, and a late fee may be assessed.  Anyone with an outstanding fine will not be allowed to register, receive transcripts or purchase a parking permit in the future.  Fines outstanding for more than one semester may be forwarded to a collection agency.  All vehicles with two or more outstanding tickets are subject to immediate citation and/or towing at the owner/operator’s expense without notice.

Vehicles parked in a fire lane, on a striped area, blocking handicapped access or driveways, in reserved spaces, or on any unpaved surface, in such a manner as to interfere with safety or normal traffic flow will also be subject to citation and/or towing at the owner/operator’s expense without notice. Parking on campus is a privilege.  The privilege may be revoked for continued or gross violations of parking regulations.

CITATION APPEAL PROCESS
Anyone wishing to appeal an Augsburg parking citation may do so by completing the appeal form and submitting to DPS in person or by mailing it to the address listed on the form. Appeal forms are also available 24/7 at DPS.

Citations may be appealed to the Augsburg Parking Appeals Committee. All appeals must be submitted within 10 days of the issue date of the citation. The Parking Appeals Committee meets on a monthly basis and responds with their decisions to the person appealing. Only forms that are complete AND include payment will be reviewed. All Parking Appeals Committee decisions are final. A lost ticket, forgetfulness, parking only for a short period, failure to display parking permit, parking in non-designated spaces, and/or not seeing signs are unacceptable grounds for appeal, and will not be considered.

SNOW EMERGENCIES
The City of Minneapolis issues snow emergency parking restrictions for the streets. To find out what the restrictions are and when they are in effect, please call the Minneapolis Snow Emergency Hotline any time 24/7 at 612-348-SNOW.
