Parking Changes on Augsburg For Adult Weekends

A Letter to the Augsburg Community

The Department of Public Safety is concerned that parking is limited for students, faculty, and staff working on Augsburg for Adults/Weekend College weekends. After discussing options on the best way to honor and reserve parking spaces for our students, faculty, and staff, we have decided on the following changes.

Lot L will be staffed with a parking attendant on Weekend College/ Augsburg for Adults weekends. Lot attendants will allow an initial 30 visitor or public vehicles in the lot and reserve the rest for those with Augsburg Parking Permits (faculty/staff/students). A half an hour after classes have started, if there are still spaces available in the lot, attendants will allow remaining spaces to be filled by visitors or the public until lot has reached capacity.

Visitors who enter the lot while attendant is in place will be required to pay a flat rate $5 fee for use of the parking. This fee is only to pay for the costs of staffing the lot and is not intended to be a revenue source for the college.

The number 30 is based on lot counts that were done this past fall on WEC weekends in which there were not large events happening on campus. On average during those weekends, only 30 spaces were available in lot L during classes with all other lots being filled to complete capacity.

This change is a new adventure for Public Safety and our goals are to provide priority parking to our Faculty, Staff, and Students. We will continue to assess the situation and make changes as needed in order to make this a success.

Lot attendants will do their best to provide other parking options in the area once lot L has reached its capacity and we can no longer provide parking to visitors.

We understand that there are many guests of the college that enrich the campus community in a variety of ways. We will continue to welcome these guests to campus and do our best to provide low cost parking on or near our campus. Anyone hosting an event on campus should contact the Dept. of Public Safety at least 3 weeks in advance to discuss parking options for guests.

The hours and days in which lots C, D, K, and L will require a permit will change to include Weekend College weekends and there will be an increase in enforcement in all campus lots.

*Vehicles in the lot before lot attendant begins their shift will be ticketed if they do not have an Augsburg Permit displayed and visible.

* Vehicles who pay the $5 fee and enter the lot will receive a visitor permit from the lot attendant as their receipt of payment.
