Portfolio Guide
for EDC 220
EDC 220--Educational
Technology students will demonstrate their competence (knowledge,
skills, and attitudes) by preparing a learning portfolio. For this
class we will develop a particular type of portfolio: an evaluation
portfolio. An evaluation portfolio is a carefully selected set of
evidence which allows others (e.g., instructors, peers, principals)
to assess your proficiency in a particular field.
Your portfolio will consist of several types of documents collected into a folder or binder (or they can be bound together) which you will submit to the instructor at the final exam period. Each section of your portfolio should be clearly labeled and separated from the other parts using file tabs or post-its.
Instructions: Printout this page. Then fill-in the blanks with the requested data. Tally your self-evaluation points at the bottom of the page. The portfolio must include a table of contents and point tally (this page should be used for this purpose).
Here is the basic structure of the portfolio:
1. Table of Contents (this sheet)
2. Reflective Statement: You
should prepare a brief 2-3 page reflective essay reviewing what you
learned in this course and how you see yourself integrating
technology into your instruction. Think back on your experiences in
this class. What are the most important things you have learned?
Please reflect on at least three types of learning you have done in
the course:
3. Internet Lessons: This section is worth up to 33 points. [ _____________ ]
(Remember to include your results on the periodic quizzes on the Internet Lessons administered in class! Points missed on these quizzes are included in your point total for this section, as are your cumulative scores on the 11 Internet Lessons which have assignments attached to them.)
- Display all completed and evaluated Internet Lessons (they should all have a point value [0-3] on the top) and quizzes.
4. Quizzes: Worth up to 17
points. [ _____________ ]
During the course, one or two brief quizzes were administered on the Internet lessons text. Indicate your earned point total here.
5. Personal Web Page: Worth up to 40 points. [ _____________ ]
Include a printout of your web site.
- 0.0-0.9 (0-9 points): Web page is incomplete, doesn't possess the minimum elements for a passing grade (see below), or is completed in such a way that it does not display professional-level commitment to quality work.
- 1.0-1.9 (10-19 points): Web page is minimally passing. All basic elements may present, but the elements may not work correctly or are poorly executed.
- 2.0-2.5 (20-25 points): Web page satisfies all basic requirements for this assignment, i.e., the page includes at least five graphics, three hyperlinks, and displays general familiarity with the basic tenets of effective web page layout.
- 3.0-3.5 (26-35 points): Web page satisfies all basic requirements for this assignment, plus is executed with a high degree of precision, creativity, and scholarship. This higher degree of performance would include several additional web page design elements such as: original scanned or drawn graphics, multiple sub-pages linking to and from the index page, original animated GIFs, imbedded tables, or other advanced HTML and/or design features. A 2-3 page written plan was delivered to the instructor at least one week before the web site was published.
- 4.0 (36-40 points): Web page satisfies all basic requirements for this assignment, plus is executed with a very high degree of precision, creativity and scholarship. This highest degree of performance would include several of the following advanced web page development features in addition to those mentioned above: site-wide navigation tools, Cgi, Javascript, or Java applets, cascading style sheets, Dynamic HTML, X-ML, forms, video files, sound files, database integration, or other very advanced HTML and/or design elements. A 3-4 page written plan was delivered to the instructor at least two weeks before the web site was published.
6. Learning Log: This section is worth up to 10 points. [ _____________ ]
- Each Friday you handed in a log of your time spent on the activities for this class (i.e., how much time you read a lesson, worked on your web page, etc.) and a brief reflection on your efforts The format for this task and may be found at this link.
7. OPTIONAL--Technology Leap: This section is worth up to 10 points. [ _____________ ]
- In this section, include your 4-5 page written summary describing your Technology Leap--what did you research and what did you learn? (Worth 5 points.) You will also prepare a 3-5 minute oral report to be delivered in class (worth 5 points). If you used any visuals in your oral presentation, or collected any other documentation (brochures, samples, etc.) include copies of these in this section of your portfolio.
8. Handouts, Articles, Course Notes, and Other Items:
9. Class Participation:
Once you have completed collecting all of your materials into your portfolio, go back and tally or rate your performance in each of the areas in which points are to be awarded. Place your self-evaluation in the brackets following each possible point total. Total these points in the space provided below.
Important Notes: Points may be subtracted from your total for poorly organized, sloppy or incomplete portfolios. Grade points are also deducted for excessive absences. Completed portfolios are due no later than the final date and time listed on the course syllabus.
