This year for the first time, the English Department will be sponsoring a Senior Reading Night. This night will be dedicated to the graduating English majors, allowing them to show off their writing talents.
"A couple of years ago, on the 50th anniversary of the publication of Ginsberg's Howl, we had a public reading of the poem in the quad. This year our students are instituting the Senior Reading—a great chance for our graduating writers to do a little creative howling of their own," says Doug Green, English chairperson. "In the spirit of Ginsberg."
Professors have been working with the English student representatives, Sam Spafford and Amanda Symes, to create an event where students can share their writings with family, faculty and friends. "This is a way for people to share what they've spent a lot of time working on," says senior creative writing major, Alissa Nollan.
"I decided to take part in this because I like what I've written and it's an opportunity to flock with people I've come to liken while attending Augsburg," says Matt Curry, media writing major. "College basketball players have senior night. Why not college writers?"
If you are interested in reading, please contact Sam or Amanda or any of the English faculty.
