General Charge for the E-Team - A collaborative project on e-learning at Augsburg College

One of the initiatives from discussions held by Leif Anderson, Chris Kimball, John Schmit, Rick Thoni and Diane Pike was the decision to develop on campus resources group knowledgeable about best practices in teaching and learning using e-strategies.

The charge of the project was to answer the questions:

  1. With respect to best teaching and learning practices with e-technology, what is right for Augsburg College?
  2. What is empirically known about effective teaching and learning on-line and for which populations served?
  3. What should we do with what we know?

The team worked over the summer of 2004 to produce a report that includes specific recommendations to College Council. The summer work included reading current and past research, taking online courses both at Augsburg and other institutions, conducting interviews with people at other institutions, and attending the 20th Annual Distance Teaching and Learning Conference in Madison, WI.

As a group we feel that the best use of this report is to initiate a dialog on the campus about the role e-learning should play in our teaching. As you will read, there are no cut-and-dried answers to the questions we are pursuing. But there are useful principles to guide us and valuable insights to spark our creativity in advancing the work and mission of the College in an exciting era of change.

Please utilize the links on the left to read either the entire report or about the key aspects of the team's findings.
