Marty Alemán is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing where she teaches and coordinates the Community Health nursing clinical. She received her BSN from the University of Minnesota and has had the opportunity to work in a wide variety of public health programs, in homecare/hospice, the hospital setting as well as four years working in a clinic/hospital in Quito, Ecuador. She received her Masters of Arts in Nursing in Transformational Leadership from Augsburg University where she focused on developing and evaluating immersion experiences to teach community health nursing in Guatemala, Nicaragua and the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota.

Marty Alemán is the Public Health Nursing Manager for the Health Communities Division of Olmsted County Public Health Services whose responsibilities include oversight of the School Public Health Nurses and several community based health promotion programs. For the past seven years, she has overseen an Eliminating Health Disparities Initiative grant focusing on diabetes and cardiovascular disease in the Latino and African American communities in Olmsted County.

Ms Alemán has had a strong commitment to working with the underserved and multicultural community in public health. She is on the Good Samaritan Health Clinic Advisory Board, the Hawthorne Health advisory committee and the Community Health Access Collaborative.

When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, adult children and traveling.
