Sarah Myers holds a Ph.D. in Performance as Public Practice from the University of Texas at Austin, where she also earned her M.F.A. in Playwriting and Drama & Theatre for Youth. At Augsburg, she teaches Script Analysis, Playwriting I & II, Theater History & Criticism II, and Creative Drama. She will be heading up the Playwriting track of the new MFA in Creative Writing starting in 2014. Her research interests include new play development, community-engaged and grassroots theater, solo and collective performance, and performance ethnography.
Before moving to Minneapolis, Sarah was a company member with Austin, TX-based Rude Mechanicals and longtime co-director of Rude Mechs’ Grrl Action program. As a playwright and performer, Sarah’s work has been featured at the Wild Project (New York); the Blue Theater, the Off Center, Hyde Park Theatre (Austin); Columbia College’s Center for Book & Paper Arts (Chicago); and the Bonderman National Playwriting Symposium (Indianapolis). In 2011 and 2012, her adaptation of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard (directed by Luverne Seifert) was performed in historic homes throughout Minnesota with a combined cast of Twin Cities actors and local community members. In 2013, her adaptation of Durrenmatt’s The Visit will be staged by Seifert in historic villages throughout the state.
