"Current Works" features artists John Finkler, Kristoffer Holmgren and James Laker, professors at Augsburg College. Showcasing their most recent artwork, the joint exhibit will be comprised of 2D works in gouache, pastel and spray paint. Finkler's series of animal drawings is inspired by the Lascaux cave paintings and explores the iconic figure. Holmgren focuses on the connections between external environments and the interior space of thought and memory through his psychological landscapes. Laker investigates the dialogue between biological, botanical, and geological participants through splicing, grafting, and hybridization of imagined figures and the landscapes they inhabit.

Fred Hagstrom and Linda Rossi are concerned with our culture’s growing sense of separation from the natural world. As professors of art at Carleton College, they have observed their students’ diminishing interactions with nature, which have dulled the sense of personal discovery within their students. Their joint exhibition of prints and photographs is a response to a collection of scientific charts from the mid 20th century. To the artists, these scientific documents represent a simpler time when there was curiosity about the environment and excitement about exploration. Hagstrom and Rossi’s exhibition “Charted Course” depicts nature in a poetic manner, demonstrating the inspirational qualities of nature.
Fred Hagstrom teaches printmaking and drawing at Carleton College. He earned his B.A. from Hamline University and went on to study with S.W. Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris, France. He received his M.F.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His artwork can be found in the collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Walker Art Center.
Linda Rossi, an associate professor at Carleton College, teaches photography and digital photography. She received her B.F.A from the University of Minnesota and earned an M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. Rossi has received grants from the Jerome and McKnight Foundations. Her artwork can be seen in the permanent collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Shaila Christofferson’s sculptural forms in her exhibition “Module” comment on the materialistic nature of modern culture in everyday life. Her forms are created out of discarded packaging materials, such as foam and plastic inserts, and are either unique molds or polyurethane rubber molds of original castings. The unmistakable familiarity of the objects she uses to create the sculptures is contrasted by the singular use of each mold, causing the works to be both recognizable and distinctive. The materials that were once unwrapped, flattened and thrown away appear again in the architectural designs of her sculptural forms.
Shaila Christofferson received her B.F.A. from the University of South Dakota and earned an M.F.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions and is a professor at Chicago State University.

Approximately 19,000 individual photographs make up Kiera Faber's stop-motion animation film, Living Organics / 09.01.29. About eleven minutes in length, the film is comprised of a world where appearances are deceiving. Exploring themes of trust and loss, Faber has constructed an environmnet where innocence and evil combine in a strangley alluring space. The series of still photgraphs exhibited around the film intiates reflection on the effect time-based media has on the interpretation of narrative.
Kiera Faber teaches art at Saint Cloud State University and received her M.F.A from the Visual Studies Workshop from Brockport State University of New York. She currently resides in St. Joseph, Minnesota.

Sarah Stone's paintings, Selected Works from the Reliquarium Collection, invite the viewer to re-evaluate contemporary images found in today's cultures. Using pop culture, religion, mythology and folk art as reference points, Stone's series portrays objects from these sources as icons, regardless of their original significance. Ranging from the Venus of Willendorf to a Gucci shoe, Stone depicts her re-imagined symbols using centralized compositions, bold colors and decorative patterns, adding a humours dimension to the weighty nautre of iconography.
Sarah Stone is a Minnesota artist. She received her B.F.A from the University of Minnesota, Duluth and recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with her M.F.A. She is currently working in Madison, Wisconsin.
