Exhibit Notes
Do not let the small format and plein-air quality
of John McCaffrey's oil paintings fool you —his evocative images
of the sultry Italian landscape are forceful and sweeping recollections
of a visit he made to the country several years ago. Closer observation
reveals an obsession with the play of light as it sculpts form, establishes
space, and constructs volume.
McCaffrey is an assistant art professor at Augsburg,
teaching painting, figure drawing, and graphic design. His exhibition,
Postcards from Italy, opens in the Christensen Center Art Gallery February
20 and runs until March 28. |
