This fall the spotlight is on Augsburg’s own
talented Art Department members when they present recent work in “Hand
to Eye.” The group exhibition opens in the Gage Family Art Gallery
on Friday, September 17 and closes Sunday, October 31. Representative
of the breadth of the Art Faculty’s skills and interests, the show
will feature work in a wide variety of media, including clay and glass
sculpture, oil painting, handmade paper, color photography, graphite drawing,
and furniture. Participants include Thomas Allen, Lynn Bollman, Tara Christopherson,
John McCaffrey, Dan Noyes, Karl Raschke, Marcia Soderman-Olson, robert
tom, and Thomas Westbrook.
The opening reception will take place in conjunction
with “Art Attack: Five College Art Crawl” on Thursday, October
7, from 7-10 p.m. Augsburg is teaming up with Concordia College, College
of St. Catherine, Macalester College, and University of St. Thomas to
make an evening of exhibition openings a fun and memorable experience.
Grab a friend or two and check out the art at these other campuses. Getting
around is easy; just climb on the ACTC buses that will be running all
evening long. Enjoy food, live music, and talking with featured artists
in the Augsburg Art Galleries.
The Gage Family Art Gallery will be hopping again on
Thursday, October 14, from 5-7 p.m. with food, live music, and a slide
presentation. The festivities are scheduled as part of the 3rd Annual
Art on the Town, a ten-day visual arts celebration sponsored by the Twin
Cities Fine Arts Organization. In conjunction with “Hand to Eye,”
Kristin Anderson, chair of the Art Department, will present “Low
and Outside: A Folk Artist’s Vision of the National Pastime”
at 6:00 p.m. in Lindell Library 301.
All events are free and open to the public.
