Crocheted wire garments and accessories dangle and
move like animate three-dimensional line drawings in the sculpture installation “Essence” by
Karen Searle. The paradoxically corporeal, yet bodiless, exhibition opens
in the Christensen Center Art Gallery on Friday, February 25 with a reception
from 5:30-7:30 p.m. At 6:00 that evening the artist will discuss her
interest in the tools and materials of domesticity that has resulted
in this surreal attire.
Searle, who has a MFA from the Minneapolis College
of Art and Design, has worked in fiber and mixed media for several decades.
She widely exhibits
her work, teaches classes and workshops both in the United States and
abroad, and annually leads textile tours to Guatemala.
The Christensen
Center Gallery is located in Christensen Center, at 22nd Avenue South
and 7 _ Street on the Augsburg College campus. The gallery
hours are 8 a.m.– 5 p.m. Monday–Sunday. For more gallery
information call 612-330-1524.
The exhibition and gallery talk are free and open
to the public. |
