The Chilean-born sculptor Alonso Sierralta explores
the theme of immigration in “Transplant,” which opens in the
Gage Family Art Gallery on Friday, November 5 and closes Sunday, December
19.
By sculpting wood into organic forms and motifs from
nature such as pods, seeds, grass, and roots, Sierralta creates objects
that in his words invoke “dispersion and growth, symbolizing relocation
and prosperity in another land.” Sierralta currently teaches at
Concordia University in St. Paul.
The opening reception will be Friday, November 5, from
5-7:30 p.m. and will feature an artist talk at 5:00 p.m.
All events are free and open to the public.
