The exhibition “Wearable Resistance” by
Mary Laurel True opens in the Christensen Center Gallery at Augsburg
College on Friday, January 14 and runs through Friday, February 18. The
Augsburg College Art Galleries are pleased to be sponsoring this exhibition
in conjunction with the 17th Annual Nobel Peace Prize Forum that is being
held at Augsburg February 11–12.
By resurrecting second-hand clothing items and assembling
them into political statements about war, human rights, and global imperialism,
True finds
a material voice for her own beliefs and concerns. As she explains, “Wearing
my resistance seems like a natural and logical way for me to express
myself.” The assembled garments and accessories epitomize the artist’s “struggle
to bring about a better world” and encourage viewers to “think
again about difficult issues that face us all—and even perhaps
be moved to act.”
The opening reception for “Wearable Resistance” is
Friday, January 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. True will also be giving a gallery
talk
on Thursday, January 27 at 12:00 p.m. All events are free and open to
the public.
The Christensen Center Gallery is located in Christensen
Center, at 22nd Avenue South and 7 _ Street on the Augsburg College campus.
The gallery
hours are 8 a.m.– 5 p.m. Monday–Sunday. For more gallery
