Garden Map, 2006
acrylic on canvas, 46” x 26”

Teresa Cox’s most recent paintings are vivid, fantastical topographies that pay homage to humankind’s relationship to the natural world. Circuitous paths and terraced gardens gracefully counterbalance vertiginous hilltops, singular trees, and manmade monuments. The odd juxtapositions of scale emit a sense of strangeness in the otherwise bucolic landscapes. For Cox, the artwork “seeks to capture the sense of abundance, renewal, and heightened awareness that is the embodiment of feeling alive.”

For many years Teresa Cox has excelled as a studio artist, teacher-lecturer, and creative designer. In 2005 she was invited to participate in the Florence Biennale, a trip that has culminated in many of the exuberant canvases featured in this solo exhibition.

All events at the Augsburg Art Galleries are free and open to the general public.
