The quiet unease that pervades Aviel Goodman’s photographic images makes one want to linger longer before them. What are the hidden pasts and uncertain futures of the sullen-looking girls and young women who populate his images? For Goodman, the artwork is open-ended. Quite deliberately he offers “plenty of room for viewers’ personal histories and psychological dynamics to shape what they experience in the presence of the piece.” Goodman’s interest in having viewers recognize and recover dissociated parts of themselves in his imagery resonates with his professional expertise as a psychotherapist.
Goodman’s photographic work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Most recently he exhibited at the California Building Gallery and Gallery Thirteen, both in Minneapolis.
All events at the Augsburg Art Galleries are free and open to the general public.
