The buoyant optimism of Arlene Burke-Morgan’s art is contagious. In her prints and paintings, overlapping planes of color dance and twinkle. Her “circles of light,” as the artist refers to them, give the sensation of radiant energy. For Burke-Morgan, a life-long Christian, the ovular shapes are more than strong design elements: They are symbols of God’s pervasive and transforming love. With the artist’s faith as the foundation of her work, she understands her art to be not an end in itself, but rather, a means to honor her most cherished values.

Burke-Morgan has recently been included in select group exhibitions such as “Couples Discourse,“ at the Palmer Museum of Art at Pennsylvania State University and “Reflections of a Legacy: Vitreographs from Littleton Studios” at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. Closer to home, she has had exhibitions at The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, Wisconsin (2005) and the Minnetonka Center for the Arts in Minnetonka (2002).

Her awards include a McKnight Foundation Fellowship (1996), two North Carolina Arts Council fellowships (1996 and 1992) and a Southern Arts Federation/National Endowment for the Arts Regional Visual Arts Fellowship (1990). Burke-Morgan's work is included in numerous public and private collections.
All events at Augsburg are free and open to the public.
